Metamorphoses
The work of the artist Ilana Lewitan Metamorphoses was created during the period between from 1997 to 1998 the artist integrates the medium of the photography into her work.
The origin of the work is the feel for surface textures, diverse materials and architectural details.
Objects that appear to be lifeless change constantly through external influences and come to life. The fascination, which proceeds from this metamorphosis, is for the artist the basis for her associations and creative processes.
On the one hand it records the moments of this change process photographically and captures the individual atmosphere of a particular country or spot, with its typical characteristics. On the other hand she explores this futher artistically and combines the Photocollage with intuitively selected materials such as stone or fabric, creating a sensual mood through this additional dimension.
The last step of the metamorphosis takes place with the painting. allowing the artist to let her artistic fantasy flow, crossing all of the borders between the paint and the photocollage. Thus all assigned elements are consolidated to a pictorial story, which the viewer can follow associatively.
