Life Stories by Dieter Ronte

When you read the titles of Ilana Lewitan's pictures, you sense the strong narrative urge that is part of the creation process. Every title could be the title of a short story, funny or serious, spontaneous or reflectively critical The artist draws on the reservoir of her experiences, which she wants to convey to the viewer albeit without trying for the logic of a story She prefers the surprises, when she artistically depicts different objects that are actually not directly destined for one another. Her imagination and the collage-like technique she employs generate a tremendous wealth of visual images, which the viewer responds to with growing curiosity. And the viewer learns a lot about the artist, a lot about painting as an art, and even more about himself. He peers through a prism glass, which is not a magnifying glass but an instrument for splitting the image into colour palettes.
The picture basically has the structure of a codified abridgement, handling the proportions of the individual representation very freely in order to achieve a new pictorial unity, which speaks of great poetry. The pictures are wonderful virtuoso narratives about life.
